Many breeds of animals that were a vital part of Canada’s agricultural heritage have fallen out of favour and are in danger of becoming extinct. Not only does this represent a tragic loss of our farming history, but also represents an important loss of genetic history. Rare Breeds Canada is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting rare and endangered farm species, and where possible helping to restore their commercial viability.
German Shepherd Rescue Toronto www.gsrt.net
After the tragic loss of our beloved German Shepherd Tessie, we were fortunate to come into contact with Laureen Moran, the organizer and founder of German Shepherd Rescue. Laureen’s volunteer organization identifies, evaluates, and looks for 'Forever Homes' for abused, neglected, and abandoned German Shepherds. We are honoured to have been able to adopt 2 German Shepherds through GSRT, and hope that you will consider providing a home for one of these exceptional dogs.
The Environmental Farm Plan is a voluntary project under which farmers conduct an assessment of their properties and then evaluate environmental strengths and weaknesses. Farmers are then encouraged to develop a set of management practices and set timelines for achievement of goals. We are privileged to have two distinct areas of wetlands on our property, and are excited about opportunities to enhance wildlife habitat on our farm. We have also been thrilled with the increase in bird activity at our farm after the deliberate nurturing of hedgerows and fencelines which serve as wildlife corridors.
Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario www.efao.ca
The Ecological Farmers Association is committed to providing education to both the general public and the agricultural sector on environmentally friendly farming practices, including crop rotation, protection of water sources, and diversification of crops and animals. Workshops and information are designed for use by not only certified organic producers, but to anyone interested in protecting the land. |
