Even though the weather has been very hot, the pastures and the hay fields have been growing due to the frequent rains. We now need some dry weather to seriously get working on our hay crop. The sheep and lambs are keeping cool in the shelter of the barn and shade of the apple trees. The month old chicks are now free-ranging outside and gaining weight and the laying hens have now settled down in their outside run. We also now have a new flock of day old turkeys getting started in a brooder in the barn. They should be ready to go outside in about 4 weeks.

The sheep are also now part of a study group at the University of Guelph. A graduate student comes by once a week to follow and observe the flock and see how they deal with water bodies. The thinking is that sheep do not foul up water as they do not like to stand in water. They only come to the edge of the water to drink and then move away to graze or rest. We have given them access to the pond and the research will continue for the rest of the summer.

The vegetable gardens are planted and we're working in the flower gardens daily! The lambs are all gaining nicely and we've begun selling them to our customers. Contact us to place your order!
